Uvex recall

Uvex has recalled seven models for chinstrap failures and failures to meet the CPSC impact standard.

We had heard rumors of the recall, said to be the result of more rigorous testing by Uvex's in-house lab.

The press release gave only model numbers. Some of the model names are:

XB017 - Race 6
XB022 - Onyx
XB025 - City 9
XB027 - Sport Boss, Boss Race
XB032 - Factory Pilot (FP) 3
XB038 - Ultrasonic Race

For XB025, in addition to the City 9, there are many other model names on the Uvex web page that Uvex identifies as needing a strap anchor replacement: Bladenight, Top Vent, XP, XP 100, XP CC, XP City, Crazy Creek Skatenight, Mercedes Benz Fahrradhelm B67997549 and Nakamura Aero.

Uvex has often changed model names from year to year or produced different models for themselves or others, but the model number is included in the liner mold and does not change. So it is best to look for the number inside to determine if a given helmet has been recalled.

Here is the CPSC recall notice:
